Maynard was a four-time AFL All Starand played for theSuper Bowl IIIChampions. The JetsretiredMaynard's No. 13 in his honor. He was inducted into theNFL Hall of Fame andincluded on theAFL All-Time Team.

Maynard died from complications ofdementia, among other ailments, at a care facility in Ruidoso, New Mexico on January 10, 2022, at the age of 86.
